Quito is the largest city in Ecuador and attracts many tourists. It is generally safe, though be on the lookout for pickpockets. We recommend that you keep valuable items in your front pockets especially when you are in crowded places. Also, although Quito is safe during the day, we recommend not walking through the city alone at night. Additionally, although Quito is safe, rates of violence are rising in other parts of Ecuador, especially along the coast and in more rural areas.
